That gap is not a patching failure in the conventional sense; it is evidence that AI workloads are being absorbed into production infrastructure before vulnerability management programs have been extended to cover them. Organizations now running four or more simultaneous AI services, with vector databases connected to enterprise data and encryption absent from the majority of AI workloads, have created an attack surface that existing security operations were not designed to see, let alone govern. The EU AI Act's high-risk obligations taking effect in August 2026 and Colorado's amended AI law following in January 2027 convert that operational gap into a compliance exposure on a hard deadline. The related set is diffuse, spanning fintech, defense, and national policy, but the directional consistency is notable: from Malaysia's national AI action plan to Peninsula Australia's employer AI-governance advisory positioning, the pattern is of institutions reaching for governance and compliance frameworks at the same moment production AI deployments are outrunning them. Across companies at this stage of AI production deployment, the pattern surfaces consistent functional pressure in three areas: security engineering with cloud-native AI architecture experience, regulatory and compliance operations capable of mapping technical controls to jurisdiction-specific AI obligations, and risk leadership that can translate vulnerability telemetry into board-level exposure language. The last of these is increasingly the bottleneck; the data exists, but the function to operationalize it at governance level does not.
