Tailscale has operated as network-infrastructure software, its product connects devices and services through a zero-trust mesh. Pennarun's public framing of agentic AI as "the new user of software" is not an abstract market observation from Tailscale's CEO; it is a product-positioning signal. When agents become the primary consumers of SaaS tools, the authentication, access-control, and network-routing layer that Tailscale occupies becomes a mandatory integration surface, not a human IT convenience but a machine-to-machine trust boundary. That commits the company to a materially different product problem: session management, permissions, and identity designed for non-human principals at volume. The related signals across the last 90 days are thin on direct comparables; the 12 signals skew toward unrelated sectors, consumer hardware, defense, pharma, making a clean count of agentic-AI-infrastructure pivots in enterprise SaaS difficult to establish honestly. What the period does show, alongside Userbot.ai's enterprise conversational AI launch and Armory Defense's agentic-AI simulation product, is that multiple layers of the stack are repositioning around agent-native architecture simultaneously, which concentrates pressure on the network and identity layers sitting beneath them. Companies at this stage of agent-infrastructure repositioning face concentrated demand for product leadership with machine-identity and API-security depth, alongside enterprise commercial leadership that can translate agent-native value propositions to security and platform buyers whose purchasing logic was built around human users. Policy and compliance capability, specifically around non-human principal governance, is emerging as the third pressure point.
