The first photonic system delivery to a US partner, happening concurrently, means Walker inherits an active customer relationship on day one, not a pipeline slide. That sequencing matters: the hire is designed to close a commercial execution gap that typically widens sharply between Series A and the scale-up phase, particularly for deep-tech hardware companies operating across geographies. Companies at this stage of hardware-platform commercialisation, cross-border, capital-intensive, security-adjacent given NSSIF backing, face concentrated demand for leadership across US enterprise sales, strategic partnerships with hyperscale and defence customers, and regulatory navigation at the intersection of export controls and national-security-sensitive compute infrastructure. The market is moving toward operators who can hold technical credibility with engineering buyers while running a structured commercial motion across multiple verticals simultaneously.
