ABS's acquisition of RMC Global does more than add headcount to its consulting practice, it commits the firm to delivering integrated industrial cybersecurity and resilience services rather than discrete advisory engagements. That is a different operating model: methodology alignment, unified service delivery, and a combined client base that will expect cross-disciplinary capability rather than two separate capability sets sold under one brand. The integration challenge is real and sits at the seam between ABS's classification and assurance heritage and RMC's operational technology risk practice. The related set is broadly diversified, spanning specialty insurance (Tiptree/Universal Shield), precision instrumentation (Spectris/Sentech), and energy storage (Dragonfly/Dakota Lithium), which limits direct comparability, but the underlying logic is consistent: acquirers are buying adjacencies to deepen service depth rather than expand geographic footprint. The ABS move fits that pattern closely. Industrial cybersecurity for critical infrastructure is a category where organic capability-building is slow relative to the accelerating regulatory and threat environment. Across companies at this stage of capability-driven consolidation in critical infrastructure services, demand is concentrating in two functional areas: technical delivery leadership able to integrate OT and IT risk frameworks across regulated asset classes, and commercial leadership experienced in selling multi-disciplinary risk services to asset owners operating under mandatory compliance regimes. Those profiles rarely overlap; firms that resolve that tension through integration leadership early tend to avoid the margin erosion that follows misaligned post-close service models.
