Huhtamaki

Thomas Morin appointed as President of Fiber Packaging division and member of Global Executive Team, effective September 1, 2026

Leadership read: Huhtamaki's decision to seat the Fiber Packaging president on the Global Executive Team, not merely run the division as a reporting unit, commits the company to treating sustainable packaging as a P&L with board-level visibility rather than a managed product line. That structural elevation, effective September 2026, means fiber packaging strategy will now be negotiated at the top table alongside the company's film and foodservice operations, creating direct accountability for the trade-offs between margin, material transition, and customer commitments that a mid-tier structure could previously defer. The related-signal set here is twelve leadership changes across the last 90 days, but they span sectors with little thematic overlap, media, cannabis, mining, aerospace, making pattern density in sustainable packaging specifically thin. What the Huhtamaki move does sit alongside is a broader observable trend of consumer-goods and packaging multinationals restructuring divisional governance to reflect regulatory pressure on single-use plastics and the commercial weight of fiber-based substitutes in FMCG procurement. Companies reaching this stage of divisional restructuring in sustainable materials tend to face rising demand for commercial leadership with both key-account and sustainability-certification fluency, alongside operations leadership capable of managing capital allocation across geographically dispersed manufacturing footprints. The market is moving toward operators who can hold the tension between fiber-input cost volatility and long-cycle customer contracts, a combination that is notably scarce across the European packaging sector.
