Fairprice is exiting its convenience store operations; Cold Storage brand will take over operation of these stores from July 1, 2026.

Leadership read: Fairprice's exit from convenience retail is not simply a format rationalisation; it is an acknowledgment that the economics of forecourt convenience in Singapore, where rental costs, labour constraints, and competitive density from 7-Eleven and other operators are acute, were no longer viable under its operating model. Handing the stores to Cold Storage repositions those units upmarket without Fairprice carrying the operational overhead, but it also creates a harder integration problem for Cold Storage: reconciling a value-convenience footprint with a premium-grocery brand identity, and doing so at speed, with inventory logic and supplier terms built for a different customer proposition. Companies executing rapid format transfers at this scale, new brand, new proposition, same physical footprint, face concentrated demand for operations leadership capable of replatforming commercial terms and supply chain quickly, alongside category management and customer-experience expertise that can hold brand coherence during the transition period.
