Geographic Expansion

Asia

Daiwa reaffirming long-term Vietnam commitment (15+ years) and increasing active investment and financing in Vietnam through expanded partnership with SSIAM, citing Vietnam's FTSE frontier-to-emerging market upgrade.

Leadership read: Vietnam's FTSE reclassification from frontier to emerging market is not primarily a marketing milestone; it is a structural change in who can allocate to Vietnamese equities. Institutional mandates that were previously barred or constrained by frontier-market classifications can now flow. That changes the competitive environment for capital structuring inside Vietnam: debt, mezzanine, and private credit instruments become more relevant as foreign institutional equity flows arrive and compress pure-equity return expectations. Daiwa and CCI CrossBorder adding credit and mezzanine capacity to the existing Growth Fund structure is a direct operational response to that shift, not a continuation of prior strategy. This is one of 12 geographic expansion signals we have tracked across the last 90 days, though the cohort is diffuse, covering data centres, renewables, consumer, and agri-trade. The Vietnam-specific pattern is tighter and more instructive: the SSIAM–DBJ Japan Vietnam Capital Fund launched in February, SSIAM's Hai An bond investment closed the same month, and now this trilateral structure. Three Japanese-linked capital vehicles structured around Vietnamese mid-market companies within roughly 90 days is a material concentration of activity, not coincidental timing. Companies and funds operating at this stage of cross-border capital deployment in Southeast Asia consistently face rising demand for leadership at the intersection of regulatory navigation, credit structuring, and local deal origination. The market is moving toward operators who can manage bilateral investor relationships, particularly Japan-to-ASEAN, while holding credible standing with Vietnamese regulators and listed-company boards. That functional combination is scarce and tends to become the binding constraint on deal velocity before headcount does.
